WHAT IS PASSIVHAUS?
The Passive House (or Passivhaus in German) building standard is a high-quality set of guidelines that focus on creating buildings that are highly energy-efficient and comfortable to live in. The goal is to reduce the amount of energy needed to heat and cool the building, while also maintaining a healthy and comfortable indoor environment.
Passive House buildings achieve their energy efficiency through a combination of design strategies, including solar passive design, insulation, airtightness, high-performance windows, and efficient heating and ventilation systems. These strategies work together to minimize the amount of energy needed to heat and cool the building, which in turn reduces its carbon footprint and running costs.
In addition to the environmental benefits, Passive House buildings offer several other advantages — For example, because the buildings are so well-insulated and airtight, they are often very quiet and have excellent indoor air quality. This can lead to a more comfortable and healthy living or working environment. Passive House buildings can also be designed to be very durable and long-lasting, which reduces the need for frequent maintenance and repairs.
The Passive House standard is an excellent way to create sustainable buildings that are comfortable, healthy, and energy-efficient. By reducing the amount of energy needed to heat and cool the building, we can reduce operational carbon emissions and create a more sustainable future for all.
